Perler Sprite Patterns

Perler is an arts-and-crafts product where you put beads on a pegboard and iron them. The beads melt together and you’re left with a set of beads permanently fused together into the desired shape.

You can create any pattern as long as you have the right colors and the pattern can be represented as a grid.

Video game sprites are colored squares arranged into a grid. Simple sprites are simple to turn into perler art. However, larger pieces can get complicated:

  • It is simple to use the wrong color
  • Are you sure it will fit onto the physical grid you have?

To solve this, I created a webapp to create patterns from sprites:
